Rock the House with These Quinceanera Music Tips!
So you wanna have a rockin’ quince? It’s not the location, your dress or the food that makes the party hot – it’s the music. “To get the party started you want to make sure everyone’s musical tastes are covered,” says Tony Silva, 38, a San Francisco-based deejay. “The quinceanera, her parents and the grandparents should all be dancing at some point of the night.”
According to Silva, there are three ways to make sure no one’s left holding up the wall at your dream birthday bash.
Don't let your friend DJ
“You should look for someone who has experience,” he says. Get referrals from buddies for professionals (you’ll want someone with a large selection of music and who knows about quinceanera traditions to ensure the evening progresses flawlessly).
Make your list and check it twice
It may not be Christmas but this is a big night. Go over every track you want played and make sure the deejay knows the precise order and timing.
Do your homework
This might be one of the few times studying is fun! While deejays are knowledgeable about a variety of music, only you know your style. “Check record shops and online for quinceanera music,” says Silva. There you can find out what type of songs you’d like to use to create the ultimate bash in your honor. Remember, your goal is to have as many people on the dance floor as possible - all night long. “I’ve seen the hardest group of guys get up and go crazy dancing [when the sound’s tight],” he says. “Music is the party.”
On the west coast DJ Tony’s known for his fabulous all-nighters. Here, his favorite picks: Waltz: “Tiempo de Vals” by Chayanne Meringue: “El Cepillo” by Fulanito Modern: “In Da Club” by 50 Cent Traditional: De Nina a Mujer - Julio Iglesias Old and Young will love: “Suavamente” by Elvis Crespo and “LaVida Es un Carnaval” by Celia Cruz
