Beauty emergencies can happen any time, anywhere.
But you certainly don t want them ruining things on the all-important occasion of your quince debut. Don't sweat it; we have your back. Read on for common beauty busters and how to correct them on the quick.
Remember: Don t leave home without your trusty emergency beauty bag that s stashed with essentials. You can hand the bag off to your mom, godmother, aunt or an older hermana for just-in-case scenarios.
Broken nail
You re getting out the limo door and a nail breaks. Reach for your beauty Rx bag where you ve included a liquid nail adhesive and glue the nail back on. (In a pinch, if there s no nail adhesive to be had, try some clear tape.) Dot polishÃin the same shade you re using over the nail and let dry; file to smooth out the edges. And keep in mind that prevention is always best, so follow simple nail-saving tips, such as asking someone to help you with putting on jewelry clasps and using your knuckles to dial numbers or text messages.
Run in your stockings
Open-toed shoes should highlight your pedicure, not your big toe sticking out of a hole in your stocking when your papi changes your shoes. Way embarrassing! So, have an extra pair of stockings or pantyhose on hand for just such an emergency. Runs on your legs aren't quite as bad since you can cover them up with your gown. To keep the runs from spreading, though, apply some clear nail polish.
Chill factor
When too-cold air conditioning or a brisk breeze threatens to give you gooseflesh you ll be ready if you ve picked a gown that comes with a matching top. It s also ideal for modesty's sake for your quince celebration in church. Check out this pretty possibility from Impression Bridal: a strapless organza gown (Style No. 2325) with pleated and satin embroidered bodice, full satin skirt and organza tier ruffles adorned with embroidery and beadwork, which comes with a 4-inch ruffled sleeve satin bolero jacket adorned with embroidery and beaded details. Available in aqua (pictured in photos 1 & 2), white and mint, it s part of Q by Davinci. For more info, visit http://www.davincibridal.comor call 1-888-745-7560.
Puffy eyes
De-puff by soaking eyes with cool chamomile tea bags or place raw potato slices or cucumber slices over closed lids. Note: Don t apply ice cubes; they can aggravate the eyelids by causing delicate capillaries to break. Got milk? It s another great cure for swollen eyes. Just saturate cotton pads with cool, soothing milk and leave on your closed lids for about five minutes (you can also use to breathe deeply as a way to help you de-stress and get into fiesta mode).
Tired-looking eyes
If undereye circles are threatening to cast shadows on your quince close-ups, try this makeup artist s trick to help bring the focus up and away from the trouble spots. Just apply concealer one shade lighter than your natural skin tone a bit under the highest point of your brow arch, then blend well.
Facial breakouts
Whatever you do, DON T squeeze the pimple, as this will only cause more redness and soreness. Instead, camouflage by using a green- or yellow-based concealer, or blemish cream in a shade lighter than your normal skin tone. Pat;Ãdon’t rubÃwith your fingertips until well-blended. Then apply a small amount of regular foundation over the spot and surrounding area with a cosmetic sponge; dust on translucent or loose powder to set.
Wimpy hair
Sprays, gels and mousses may be great hair setters, but if you use too much of a good thing, you can wind up with a do that’s more droopy than dazzling. To avoid styling-aid overload, try spot applications. For instance, use hair spray on roots and a moisturizing mousse on hair ends. Another great style reviver: run water-dampened fingers through your tresses to reactivate mousse for renewed control without restyling. For extra volume, flip your hair forward, then toss back into place. Bellisima!
In need of an energy jolt
Reach for a glass of orange juice. Apart from raising your blood-sugar level quicker than you can say pronto, OJ is a tasty thirst quencher that s packed with vitamin C, which is great for skin.
Stress attack
Relax tense facial muscles by singing a tune. Singing relieves the stress, improves your respiration and helps release endorphins, the body s natural feel-good chemicals. Another option: Hug and pet your perrito; A quince girl s best friend, your pet's unconditional love and adoration will work wonders to boost your self-confidence and relieve your nerves.
