 The Party of a Lifetime! When Wanda and Kenneth Alvarado of Flushing Meadows, N.Y., decided to plan their daughter Shivonne’s coming-of-age party, they chose to buck tradition and merge their Puerto Rican, Polish and American heritages by celebrating "sweet 16" style. The Alvarados said they wanted something different, more American, and decided they didn’t want to deal with all of the time-consuming rituals of a quinceañera celebration.
